WANN Connection Devices Inc. (WANN) specializes in the development and manufacture of communication devices for point-of-sale (POS) applicators and identification-reading products. WANN is a private Canadian corporation founded in 1992. The company consists of a core of researchers and designers who design and develop new products for our clients. Our core competencies include: digital and analog design, radio transceiver design, Telco interfaces, real-time software, and data communication protocols. Our products development experience covers wireless terminal applications, optical recognition products and data concentrators and multiplexers. WANN is a subsidiary of Canadian Bank Note Company, Limited (CBN). CBN is a provider of security printing, security products ID-issusing systems, and a developer of lottery systems. CBN markets these products throughout the world and has been part of the security printing community for nearly 100 years. This relationship with CBN has created an environment where ideas on technology concepts and knowledge can be freely exchanged between all of CBN’s Joint Ventures and subsidiaries. This association has provided WANN Connection Devices with access to additional expertise in security and identification technology and applications, mechanical design, as well as financial resources and a large pool of personnel. This has accelerated WANN’s program to develop new products and expand its client base. CBN is also providing access to a large international sales force. WANN Connection Devices currently produces a family of products aimed at the telecommunications and POS market place. In total, WANN has an installed base of over 60,000 units of this family of products providing cost-effective data communications. Our radio frequency (RF) technology provides low-cost, reliable connectivity over short to medium distances in the unlicensed ISM radio band. We are incorporating this technology into various new products including a handheld wireless terminal accommodating credit, debit and smartcards. Target applications include restaurants, full-service gas stations and any retail environment where on-the-spot payment is required. WANN Connection Devices has also developed optical recognition technology which has been used in developing products such as our Travel Document Reader. This was developed through our relationship with CBN and is sold internationally under their name. WANN will work
with customers on custom development of electronic devices to meet specific needs.
The strengths we bring to the table are rapid development cycle, experience in developing
cost-effectives digital and analog design, in-house and layout facilities
and experience with high-volume, low-cost production. Wann provides direct sales in Canada for
it's POS and related product line.
