CD90 Three Terminal
Dial Concentrator
The CD90 is a low-cost
modem port concentrator. It allows up to three point-of-sale (POS) terminals
with dial-up modem ports to be connected into a single phone line, thereby
reducing the number of lines needed. Most importantly, the CD90 can be
installed into an existing configuration with no code changes to the terminals.
Already hundreds of units have been successfully deployed with not only
substantial operating cost savings, but a marked improvement in performance.
The CD90 collects
traffic from each POS terminal and routes this to a bank host. The first
terminal to require service causes the CD90 to establish a session with
the host. If another terminal then requires service it can take advantage
of the session already in progress by the first terminal. During very busy
periods it is possible that several transactions can be bridged together
into one call, allowing for quicker processing of transactions.
The CD90 can
be programmed to modify the message format coming from the terminal to
be configured for a different host. It can also be programmed to capture
call statistics and any other information that may be of interest. When
new applications are developed, the CD90 can be downloaded over the phone
network, allowing new features to be easily and quickly sent to merchants.
The CD90 can
detect off-hook and generate ringing on the terminal ports. Thus it can
place calls to and accept calls from the attached dial terminals. The CD90
completely simulates the telephone networks so that the terminal notices
no difference from being connected to the PSTN lines.
Installation
is made easy by the fact that the CD90 is a plug-and-play solution. There
is no need for any expensive wiring. The terminals plug into the CD90 exactly
as they plug into a Telco receptacle. No code changes are required to the
terminal.
Configuration
data for the CD90 is programmed either from the terminal or simply by calling
into the CD90 remotely and updating its flash memory information. Maintenance
is easy as changes to configurations can be done from a remote help desk
without the need for the merchant to get involved.
